Getting Started

We are two teachers working in Pääskytie school which is a junior high school situated in the south coast of Finland, about 50 km from Helsinki. We would like to start a project with our students involving students from two other schools abroad. We are currently looking for cooperating teachers from Norway and Estonia/Latvia and we have been browsing the eTwinning pages in order to find suitable partners.

Here is our project idea in a nutshell:
– students aged 15
– starting August 2012, ending at the end of May 2013.
– topic: the everyday life
– level of language proficiency: basics
– communicative learning
– dialogues, drama, short and simple stories
– posting our works online, commenting on each others’ works
– ultimate goal: to involve students who have poor language skills and make them part of a project that would make it possible to use a foreign language in a real life situation and in that way keeping also those students active in foreign language learning who would otherwise maybe graduate (or drop out) with low self-esteem as a language learner.
– traveling to visit each other in the spring

We intend to file for funding at Nordplus.

  1. Hello Annika,

I got your blog adress from Markus and we would like to participate in your NP project. Our school is in Trelleborg, 30 kms from Malmö in Sweden. Our students background is very multinational and multicultural and many of them have difficulties with English or with other modern foreign languages. So your aim, to increase their motivation, would find our support. I am responsable for language development in our school, also through the usage of social media and other web2.0 and 3.0 tools. Our school website you will find below.
Would be nice to hear from you soon. Thank you, Catrin

  2. Hi from Latvia! I’ve got your message in eTwinning and wrote you back, ’cause i’m really interested in this project. I think such kind of project could motivate my students to work harder in English lessons:). Moreover, the best part for them is the possibility to meet the participants face to face!!!

    • Dear Inara, thank you so much for the message. We have received a couple of letters via email and eTwinning and we will go through them and talk with our headmaster and I will get back to you at the end of next week at the latest. Best regards, Annika

  3. Good luck to your new project! Or should I say good luck with or use the preposition “for” or maybe good luck in… ;-)
